The MB-6, Maple Blossom 6-string has an arched, hard, dense, colorful, exotic, and naturally beautiful ebony fingerboard and all the features of the 5-string Maple Blossom plus the custom tailpiece and bridge that create a superb playing banjo for guitar players.
If you already play guitar and have thought that it would be fun to learn to play the banjo here is your instrument. Now you can play banjo with the same chords and fingering you already know. It's great for those songs that would sound better if played on a banjo.
The 6-string banjo idea came to Greg Deering after he heard a song called "Desert Pete" on one of the Kingston Trio albums. He tried for weeks to figure it out on the 5-string banjo. Later he learned that it had been recorded by Glen Campbell on a 6-string banjo.
In examining older 6-string banjos, Greg observed the consistent lack of good tone. So he decided to determine why it never sounded quite right. He solved this mystery and now we produce the only 6-string banjos with great sustain and beautiful tone.
All our 6-strings feature an arched, hard, dense, colorful, exotic, and naturally beautiful ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl inlays and 22 frets and compensated bridges for accurate intonation. One of the most appealing aspects of our 6-string banjos is the fact that our necks are sleek and comfortable - easy to play.
The 6-string banjos were used in the early 1900's in some of the jazz bands but they never really caught on because the sound wasn't quite right. We are the only makers today who have mastered the 6-string banjos to bring out a wonderful banjo tone and make the instrument a joy to play. Many guitar players are now discovering the new sound available from playing a Deering 6-string banjo. Anything you play on a guitar can also be played on the 6-string banjo. It can be flat-picked or finger-picked equally well. We string it with extra light acoustic guitar strings, however it does perform well with other string gauges. The sound is excellent!
The D-6, Deluxe 6-string, with its three-ply maple rim and Deering bronze tone-ring provides a completely professional sound with more sustain and excellent clarity. Troy Gentry recorded with the D-6 on his Montgomery Gentry "Tattoos & Scars" album that went platinum.
The B-6, Boston 6-string is lighter in weight. The pot utilizes the same

steel rim construction found in our Boston 5-string. In the 6-string banjo this creates excellent note distinction, clarity, and sparkling crispness which makes an ideal recording instrument.
THE 12-STRING BANJO, D-12 The Grand Piano of Banjos!
If you play 12-string guitar, you won't believe the tremendous sound you get when playing the same style on the 12-string banjo! We didn't believe it until after we built the first one, custom for Barry Hunn, and then heard him play it. It even took us by surprise! It is capable of a powerful sound and presence while also able to produce music so sweet that it seems to have been brought down from heaven by angels.
It is tuned just like a 12-string guitar, and you use the same chords and fingering - nothing new to learn. Tuned EE,AA,DD,GG,BB,EE.
The 12-string banjo is built similar to a D-6 banjo but with a Deering tailpiece and compensated bridge. The mahogany neck shape is very comfortable and easy to play. Diamond shaped mother-of-pearl inlays are set into the arched, hard, dense, colorful, exotic, and naturally beautiful ebony fin gerboard. The action is excellent.
Joe Satriani played a D-12 on the song, "Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness" on his "Extremist" CD that went Gold. David Hidalgo played a D-12 on Los Lobos' "Kiko" CD on the song, "Two Janes".
