Tu-ba-phone Tone-ring
The Tu-ba-phone tone-ring is made specially by Deering. First introduced in 1909, it is a complex and demanding tone-ring to build. Made in three pieces that must be assembled with extreme precision (or it just won't work), this ring is hand made and hand assembled by highly trained luthiers, creating one of the most beautiful sounding Tu-ba-phones ever made.
The Tu-ba-phone tone-ring is carefully fitted to a three-ply rock maple rim that is capped in black and bound. Fitted to the outside of the rock maple rim is a thick, solid brass bracket band with bracket shoes attached. Traditionally, this has been the most desirable configuration for these classic instruments. This system was prized in the early 20th century and is still prized today because it prevents the rim from being drilled through and improves the tone. This bracket band system was only used on the early premium, high-end banjos. This is available today on the ' Dragon Star, Vega No. 2 and Vega Long Neck. |
